Notes:
Please refer to the above tabs for all information about this tournament

If you win this tournament, you get 1500 points!  You can click on this link (then click on "Regional Junior Championships") to see the points available by finishing position. Many finishing positions have more points than winning a Silver or making a Gold quarterfinal.

If you have a ranking point average over 1500, consider playing up an age group for building your match skills or to build ranking points in the next age group.

Points and Exposure Optional

Players may choose to not take the points and exposure from playing in the Junior Regional Championships if they choose by emailing tournaments@ussquash.com within one week of the completion of their tournament. Players will automatically receive the points and exposure unless an email is received.

Tournament Timeline
Registration Deadline and Cutlist created Wednesday, November 21, 2018 12:00pm  (Noon) EST
Late Withdrawal Penalties apply from Monday, November 26, 2018 12:00pm EST
Late Entry Deadline -- Registration taken down & Draw sizes lock  Tuesday, November 27, 2018 12:00pm EST
Player Start Times Wednesday, November 28, 2018 5:00pm EST
Waitlist Management - until Thursday, November 29, 2018 12:00pm EST
Online Draws available Thursday, November 29, 2018 5:00pm EST

All draws with 16 or less players will play Saturday and Sunday only.

Draws with 17 or more players generally will play a first round Friday evening at 7 PM or later. We anticipate that most players in draws of 17+ would have first round byes.  For example, assume 20 players enter a draw.  Only the players seeded 13-20 would have matches Friday evening.  The top 12 seeded players would have a bye in the first round.

Historically, few divisions in the regional championships have had over 16 players in a draw. So we anticipate that for divisions with 17 or more players, most if not all first round matches will start after 6 PM on Friday. If there are more than 32 first round matches in divsions with 17+ players, we may have to schedule some matches prior to 6 PM. Since we support the scholar athlete, we have the older age groups starting later, should they need to play any first round matches.

The formula for counting to 32 Friday matches is (# in draw-16) for each draw with 17 or more players.

History of divisions with 17+ since 2014:
2017 - BU17, 17 players
2016 - BU17, 22 players
2015 - BU15, 19 players; BU17, 21 players

So if entries are in line with historical norms, we would play the draws with 17+ matches starting at 7 PM or 7:30 PM and be done by about 8 PM. If we have more than 16 matches to schedule Friday evening, then we would schedule up to 8 additional matches at about 8 PM. If there are more than 24 matches to play Friday, which would be very unusual, then up to another 8 matches would go off at 6:30 PM, then 6 PM and so on, with younger age groups playing earlier.

That information will also be available Thursday at 6 PM.  To reserve a court, email your name and time desired to Alister Walker. (If for some reason you plan to arrive before 4 PM Friday, earlier practice times can be considered.)

AIRPORT AND AMTRAK OPTIONS:

You can fly into the DC area via the three regional airports -- Washington Reagan, Washington Dulles and Baltimore Washington (BWI) Airports. Amtrak provides two trains per hour from New York and Boston into Union Station, which is 30 minutes by car to the venue.

United has many nonstops into Dulles, while American provides many nonstops into Reagan and Southwest provides many nonstops into Baltimore Washington Airport.  BWI is pretty far, about 50-60 minutes, so you better have a cheap flight if you are going there.  Reagan is the closest, just 15-20 minutes by car.  Dulles is about 35 minutes by car.

Southwest Airlines now flies in to Reagan and has a major hub at BWI, which normally has the lowest fares of the three airports.

Estimated Uber fares and time for Uber X, assuming no surge pricing and travel during off peak hours:

Reagan -- $24-$30, 15-20 minutes.

Dulles -- $45-$50, 35 minutes.

Taxis are more expensive, but each airport has plentiful taxi service.

We have secured a great rate at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Springfield, VA. This hotel is one of the best in the area and is one of the most convenient hotels to The St James. It is less than 2 miles from The St. James. The room rate is $89 per night for two queen beds, with a hot breakfast, parking and wifi included. The hotel also offers and on demand shuttle service for up to three miles from the hotel. Since the courts are closer than that, you don't need a car. Note: The double queen rooms are now sold out at our rate. There are still some King bed rooms, which come with a queen sofabed.

You can book online by clicking here.  Book by November 23 (now through Nov. 27 -- but just 3 rooms left as of 11/23), though we advise booking early to avoid missing this great rate.

If room block is sold out, email David Keating and we will see if we can secure more rooms at this rate.

The hotel can be reached by cab/Uber/lift for $25-$30 from Reagan Airport or by Metrorail for under $5 one way, plus either the hotel shuttle or a short Uber/Lyft ride for under $10.

Here is a map of the area, showing the venue, hotel, coffee, grocery and top dining options.

See the venues tab for airport and train transportation information.
