Winter Classic 2014

On Saturday, January 11th, when freezing rain made driving so treacherous in the Monadnock Region, the intense, red hot play at the ASC&D Mid-Winter Round Robin Tournament could have melted all the ice in Cheshire County.  The tournament adopted a round robin format so every participant played each other in best 2 of 3 game format, 15 points to win a game.  Several contests ended 2 games to 1 which underscores the near parity among the participants.  Again, Marc Ducharme beat back youth’s challenge, Josh Houle, spotting Josh the first game and then roaring back to take the next 2.   Russ Cobb, a newcomer to the game of squash and to the club, showed great promise in building large leads against several opponent before finally succumbing.

Unlike the last two tournaments where Josh Houle had the spectacular shot of the day, Jim Rousmaniere had this Tournament’s shot of the day while playing Marc Ducharme…an extraordinary “dig” from deep in the right corner about 5 inches off the court floor for a winner…but alas this play was not enough to upset the tournament champion.   The results order was:  Marc Ducharme, Josh Houle, Dave Stabler, Russ Cobb and Jim Rousmaniere.

The ASC&D club’s next tournament is tentatively slated for the 22nd of March…the Spring Invitational.
